How to Prep Your Home for the Fall Weather
Fall is right around the corner, and as the cooler weather approaches, it is important to make sure that you are preparing your house to withstand the cold. If you are a first-time homeowner or not sure where to start with your Fall prep this year, here are a few ways that you can prep the exterior of your home to ensure that it is ready:
- Check your roof. Be sure to check your roof for any potential damages or loose shingles. You will want to make sure that these are fixed before the colder months approach! As leaves begin to fall from trees surrounding your home, be sure to upkeep your roof by making sure that leaves do not begin to pile on it.
- Check the sides of your house. Inspect the sides of your house for any cracks or holes. If you find any, be sure to get these repaired, as the sides of your home are essentially what protect you from strong winds and weather or any bugs. If the sides are not firm and strong, any potential holes or cracks cold lead to water trapping within them, which can cause many further damages.
- Check your gutters. Take a close look at your gutters to ensure that there are no leaks, and that there are no leaves, nests or any debris piled within them. It is important to ensure that your gutters are not clogged so that your system continues to flow nicely and there are no floods in your basement!
- Check your landscaping. The landscaping surrounding your home is just as important as the exterior of it! Make sure that your shrubs, grass and any flowers or plants are trimmed in preparation for the colder weather. Try to continue to remove leaves, and don’t forget to fertilize your lawn to prevent any damages!
