Get Your Home Ready for the Snow!
The first day of winter is just a few weeks away, however, many areas have already started to experience snow. It is important that you properly prepare your home for snow days, whether it is a small or big storm. Whether you are familiar with the New England winters, or you just moved to New England, here are some great reminders on how you can prepare your home:
- Make sure you have shovels. While this one may be more obvious, many people often forget to double check that they have shovels ready for use from the previous season! Get your shovels together so that you can feel confident they are working and will be ready for use.
- Stock up on salt and sand. First thing is first, make sure you have a good amount of salt and sand in preparation for snow! The salt will help to activate the snow and melt it quicker, while the sand will be perfect to sprinkle on ice after the storm to ensure that people do not slip. When you gather all your salt and sand, make sure it is stored indoors so that it does not freeze.
- Get your snow blower ready for action. Or, if you don’t have a snow blower, investigate purchasing one if you are not prepared to plow or have your driveway be plowed. Make sure that your snow blower works, and, if you are looking to over-prepare, purchase some extra parts in case any give out during the storm. Do not forget to purchase some extra gas, as well!
- Check your gutters. Give your gutters a quick check to ensure that all the leaves from the fall season are out and that they are not clogged. This is important to make sure that ice will not build up within the gutters.
