Planning Your First Home Renovation
Whether you are planning on selling your home soon or not, a home renovation is a great investment! At the same time, it can be overwhelming since there is so much organizing and planning that goes into it. Although renovations are a lot of work, if you have the time, the sooner you start planning, the better! Here are some things to consider when planning a home renovation, which, trust us, will be totally worth it:
- Know your budget. Before beginning to plan the scope of your work, you should assess what your budget is and how much you can spend on these renovations. Perhaps you must hold certain renovations for later in the year, or you might even consider taking out a home equity loan to help you complete the project.
- Align on the scope of work. Once you know how much you can spend and who will be leading all the renovations, it is time to create your game plan. Write down all the realistic goals that you are trying to accomplish throughout the project, and then break down the budget for each section of the scope so you can ensure you’re staying on track.
- Find the right team to help you through the process. One of the most important parts about home renovations is making sure you have the right sub-contractors in place. Make sure you do your research by properly investigating your options for who can help to get you to the finish line. You may even want to tap into family or friends who have experience and could easily reference sub-contractors they have worked with in the past.
