About Barrington, RI
Barrington is a suburban town in Bristol County, Rhode Island, situated approximately 7 miles southeast of Providence. The town was founded by Congregationalist separatists from Swansea, Massachusetts and was incorporated in 1717. It was later merged into Warren in 1747 by Rhode Island but was separated as its own town again in 1770. Historically, Barrington was an agricultural community until the 1850s when brickmaking companies established their presence, attracting a workforce primarily of French-Canadians and Italians. The construction of a railroad to Providence in 1855 spurred suburban development and industrial growth.
